Van Doornes AutomobilFabrieken ifadesinin kısaltılmış biçimi olan DAF, 1 Nisan 1928‘de Hub van Doorne tarafından, Hollanda‘nın Eindhoven kentinde inşaat atölyesi olarak kuruldu. Daha sonra otomobil ve ticari taşıt üreticisi haline geldi.
